Carolyn Baker, EdD
I have been an educator for more than twenty-five years. Upon completion of my undergraduate degree at Longwood University in Virginia, I taught in Indiana, Florida, Tennessee, and Texas. I attained a master’s degree from Rollins College in Florida and went on to earn a doctorate in education from Vanderbilt University.
I founded the Nashville Catholic Middle School Forensic League and coached the forensic team at Overbrook School for 14 years. I have been an adjunct instructor at Aquinas College in Nashville, the University of St. Thomas, and Springfield College in Houston, Texas.
I became interested in writing about how people with Down syndrome can inspire and enrich the lives of others, especially after the success of my book about my brother with Down syndrome, which sold out. That experience led me to connect with people with Down syndrome and their families from around the world and hear their remarkable stories. I wanted to find a meaningful way to share those stories and the lessons they offer, which inspired me to approach them from a devotional perspective. This journey has led to my third book, Getting UP with DOWN… Devotions Inspired by Those with Down Syndrome.
I have two daughters and three grandchildren. I currently live in Nashville, Tennessee, with my husband, Clark. We have been happily married for 54 years.
