Sarah Riffer, Executive Director of the Armed Services YMCA OF Alaska, has a creative way to host a book club when distance is an issue—have a virtual book club meeting! If you have trouble finding a way to meet and have a book club, here’s how Sarah does it: “We ‘meet’ virtually once a month to discuss the chosen book. We are all Y professionals so the first half hour is usually catch up of what is going on at our Y’s. The last 1-1 1/2 hour is discussion about the book. We take turns facilitating with discussion questions. With the time differences between all of us (they are ALL in Alaska), we struggle to choose convenient times, but we have been doing this for four or five years now. In the Y world we have to be intentional with our relationship building, this is just another opportunity to do just that.” I love how Sarah has taken a problem of distance and made it work for their area. Thanks, Sarah, for selecting my book to read and review.
